I have had dogs all my life, and although I didn’t know it at the time, I would classify myself as a positive trainer, for the most part.
In the past 2 years I have learned so much more about the anatomy, and mentality of dogs, this has made a huge difference in how I approach teaching not only my dog, but all dogs. It doesn’t matter if they are tiny, small, medium, large, or extra large. They all can and will learn with positive reinforcement. There is nothing that can’t be accomplished with positive reinforcement training.
You might say “my dog is to old to learn new things, a new way of being part of the family”. I say you’re completely wrong! I’ve been part of training a 12 year old dog, and it completely blew me away how quickly and can I say tail wagging happy this dog took to all the new training!! It also took that owner being 100% on board with positive reinforcement.
I stumbled on the Animal Behavioral College one day on the internet and thought, this is something I would love to do! So, I did some checking and decided to dive in. Now you’re talking about someone that has been removed from any kind of real curriculum for about 39+ years, talk about a leap!! But, I signed up for the courses, it was all reading and computer work for the first year. Then after I took the exam for that segment, I was then assigned to a local trainer to begin my 21 week externship training. I was the luckiest person in the world to be assigned to the amazing Stacy Strickland of Jacksonville Pawsitive Training!! I spent 21 weeks learning about training, setting up classes, equipment, and way to many other things to list here. I took my final exam and passed with flying colors! I was so overjoyed to now be an official Certified Dog Trainer.
I loved working with Stacy and helping her with her clients so much I continued to work with her even after I completed my required 21 weeks to continue to soak up as much as I could.
I also decide to go on and extend my learning just a little more and took the Pet Massage course offered through ABC. I am also proud that I passed that course with flying colors and can offer Pet Massage. What a benefit this will be for those pets that have health issues to promote circulation, help with arthritic joints, or sore muscles after an injury or surgery. My little 10 yr old Pug/Brussels Mix is sure loving the practice I get using him, LOL!
The best thing in the world to me is watching you and your dog connect on a whole new level! Best friends for life, isn’t that what we really want?
Call, text, email me today, I can’t wait to hear from you and your fur baby!
